    Description

We found this heavily decorated shirt in Nashville, Tennessee.  All decorations are done with glass beads.  Stamp inside of shirt indicates it came from the Waas & Son company of Philadelphia.  Waas was founded in the late 19th Century.  We are unsure when they went out of business.  Shirt is heavy cotton.  Not sure if it was intended for a man or woman.......probably unisex.  The male part of the front snaps are marked:  Pat. June 11 1898.  The female part of the snaps are marked:  C.F. Co and there appears to be an image of a Fox as part of the marking.
Very bottom snap is broken as shown in photo #9.  There is a stain on the right sleeve as shown in photo #7.  A very small section of glass beading is missing on the right cuff as shown in photo #8.  There is a hole in the fabric (along with a stain) near the right side seam as shown in photo #9.  There are some other stains/dirt spots on the shirt much like that shown in photo #8.  We could find no moth holes.  Slight mildew smell.
Sleeve cuffs were sewn to be rolled as shown.  No label in the collar.  No size marked.  The shirt measures 15" across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.  Shirt measures 30" from top of collar to bottom of shirt.  The sleeves measure about 25" from shoulder seam to bottom of rolled cuff.  We are guessing that this shirt may have been used in the early days of the Grand Ole Opry.  Because of the glass beading the shirt is very heavy.
